Echoes of Tethys - Exploring Mangystau, Kazakhstan
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Top AirVuz contributor haussmannvisuals won the DVOW contest for this fantastic video from the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan in Central Asia. Mangystau is located in the southwestern corner of the giant country, and extends eastwards from its long coastline on the Caspian Sea. Due to the unusual sedimentation and erosion patterns here, it's characterized by giant rock formations which rise hundreds of ft./m from the ground. The video was filmed with a DJI Avata 2 first person view (FPV) drone as well as a DJI Mavic Pro 3.

Description: Join me on a journey into the past to the remnants of the ancient seas that once covered Mangystau. Around 70 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous, layers of marine sediment accumulated across this region. Over millions of years, uplift, wind and water transformed the former seabed into Mangystau’s chalk-white cliffs, vast canyons and otherworldly rock formations. A drone journey full with discoveries, hardships and a lot of fun. Shot on the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Avata 2 and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
